Change the icons of existing categories in Content Center in Inventor 2014

When you create a Category in your custom library, you have the option to browse and select the icons for it.





By the way, in previous versions of Inventor, once you have created the new Category, you cannot change the icons you have selected, because the options are grayed out when you open the Category Properties dialog box.



This has been improved in Inventor 2014.

After installing the Update 1, you will be able edit the Category Properties of an existing category and change the icons you have selected when you have created it.

Besides, in case you have copied a standard Category Structure to your custom library, if you want, you can also change the icons for these Categories that will display in Content Center with the custom icon when the custom library is in use in the active project.

Create a Bolted Connection Library

For those of you using Inventor's Bolted Connection, it might be useful to know that there is a Templates Library feature within Bolted Connection to store away your regularly used fastener arrangements. See the steps below:

• Insert a Bolted Connection as normal, selecting the arrangements of Bolts, Nuts and Washers etc. Then click the >> button at the bottom, if it is not already. Select Add to put your arrangement into the Template Library.

Workspaces

Workspaces are sets of menus, toolbars, palettes and ribbon control panels that are grouped and organised so that you can work in a custom, task-oriented drawing environment.

When you use a Workspace, only the menus, toolbars and palettes that are relevant to a task are displayed. In addition, a Workspace may automatically display the ribbon or a special palette with task-specific control panels.

You can easily switch between Workspaces. The following task-based Workspaces are already defined in the product:

• 2D Drafting & Annotation
• 3D Modelling
• AutoCAD Classic

For example, when you create 3D models, you can use the 3D Modelling Workspace that contains only 3D-related toolbars, menus, and palettes. Interface items that you do not need for 3D modelling are hidden, maximising the screen area available for your work.

To change Workspaces either select from the drop down at the top or the list at the bottom:

Vault Explorer Custom Filters

You can define Custom Filters on a Folder View within Vault, when applied these selections apply to the Current View.

You can use a Filter to return only the data you need from the Server, limiting the number of files in your view, increasing performance.

• Browse to the Folder that you require in Vault, then go to View > Cutomize View.
