Designed In Inventor

urbee, jim kor, kor ecologic, hybrid vehicle, 3d printed

Nothing says “Welcome to the Future” like a 3D-printed runabout vehicle with a hybrid engine, three wheels, speeds of up to 68 mph, and capacity to carry up to 1,200 lbs. The Urbee 2 is the result of Jim Kor’s dream for a modern, sustainable vehicle that will someday revolutionize the way that we commute.

The exterior’s lightweight construction of ABS plastic allows for a minimum amount of drag and fuel required to operate the car, and it’s stronger and more easily manipulated than steel. Able to hold two passengers, the Urbee could very well be the next big thing in urban transportation.

Project to Surface

From time to time you might want to create something more complex than a Solid with a perpendicular Cut feature. A useful, but often overlooked tool in Inventor is the 3D Sketch, which contains some useful features, such as Project to Surface.

This feature allows you to project a 2D Sketch to a Face/Surface, allowing you to place sketches exactly on a face to use as a Sweep path, Split Line, Loft Rail etc. See the steps below to get yourself started with 3D Sketches.

Project to 3D Whilst in the 2D Sketch

In Inventor 2012, if you want a 2D Sketch projecting onto a 3D Face as a 3D Sketch, simply do it whilst creating the 2D geometry. The new Project to 3D Sketch command projects geometry from the active 2D Sketch onto selected Face/s to create a 3D sketch. Follow the steps below:

Viewport Control

In AutoCAD 2012 t is easier than ever to set up or modify your viewports, 2D and 3D views and visual styles directly from the drawing window.

If you click on these options you will be given a quick list of options to chose from, saving time finding these settings on the Ribbon or in Options.

LABS - 3D Annotation for Inventor

The 3D Annotation for Inventor Technology Preview allows the Inventor user to apply 3D Annotations: dimensions, geometric tolerances, surface finish symbols, datum symbols, and notes to a part model, which are then displayed in the graphics view.

The technology preview is an emulation intended to provide the Inventor user with a sense of a 3D Annotation capability to solicit feedback and to gauge interest level.

The 3D Annotation for Inventor Technology Preview is licensed for a limited term and for a particular territory as referenced in the End User License Agreement.

LABS - Project Photofly

Project Photofly is a Technology Preview to automatically convert photographs shot around an object or a scene into Photo Scenes using the power of cloud computing. The photographs can be shot with any standard digital camera, as long as you follow some shooting guidelines.
