Rename Blocks the Easy Way

You may have found that when you use Copy, then Paste as block in AutoCAD, the new block will be assigned a name such as A$C1C637CF9. However, you may wish to change this to represent something a little more to your liking, if so read on.
  • Firstly select the geometry you require as a Block and Copy, then Paste as Block.

  • Once the Block has been pasted onto the drawing, if you check the Properties you will see the auto-generated Block name AutoCAD has assigned.

  • You can use the RENAME tool in AutoCAD to select the block and provide a new friendly name. RENAME can also be used for renaming other AutoCAD entities such as Layers.
